Here are easy-to-do, low-cost activities that teachers can suggest to parents that will help their children develop critical pre-literacy skills.
DVD #1: Helping Parents Teach Through Play — Explores vocabulary development, counting, concept development, critical thinking, coordination, as well as social skills such as cooperation, listening, and self-discipline.
DVD #2: Helping Parents Develop Language and Literacy at Home — Stresses the importance of parents reading to their children no matter what language is used or what the parents’ educational level. Illustrates how speaking listening, retelling stories and picking out words all help develop literacy.
Running time: 25 Minutes each DVD (50 minutes total). Includes an instructional guide.
